What We Do

CASEWORK

Are you facing a crisis, either financial or emotional?   Families who encounter crisis and then find themselves overwhelmed are often unable to deal effectively with their problems.  We offer information and referral to other agencies.

SERVICES TO NEW COMERS

Are you new in the community?

JSS provides you with up-to-date information about the Jewish and general community in the Hamilton-Wentworth area.  JSS has a long history in the resettlement and integration of immigrants from all over the world.

FIGHTING HUNGER

The Kosher Food Bank helps families and individual survive that are experiencing severe financial problems – both long and short-term. The Hamilton Jewish Social Services Kosher Food Bank enables families to eat kosher food. The Jewish community is determined that no one will go hungry!  There are kosher frozen chickens, ground beef, as well as a full range of canned goods, and dry goods.

An interview is required to determine eligibility.   Our goal is to help everyone remain a part of the community in the Hamilton area.

DEALING WITH AGING PARENTS

Where can you turn to deal with problems associated with aging parents?

JSS offers a wide range of services to help settle and accommodate parents in the most satisfactory living arrangement. We offer referral services, for finding domestic help.

FINANCIAL AID TO ELIGIBLE HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS

We are part of a worldwide organization that works with the Conference for material claims against Germany.

Hamilton Jewish Social Services helps survivors who are financially eligible for compensation from the German Claims Conference.  Help is offered in homecare and emergency financial aid.  Proof of war history and persecution and income tax returns are necessary for this application.  There are strict guidelines that need to be followed.

CAREER COUNSELLING

We have an experienced job counselor with many years of experience  two morning a weeek who will help you find the right place to work. They will help with finding employment, how to write resumes and job referrals.  This is a confidential service.

We alert job club members to any jobs available in the community and surrounding areas.
